2024-2025 sign ups are now available for our winter CSA!

Get local veggies all year!

(And it's not just turnips and potatoes!)

We’re excited to offer another winter share! The storage veggies are rolling in (well, hopefully not rolling - they are being carefully placed in bags!) and the greens are happily growing. The cabbages, kales, broccoli, and cauliflower have had a great growing season - combine that with the great potatoes, greens, winter squash, rutabagas, beets, onions, and way more that we always grow and we should have tons of diversity and plenty of food all winter long.

Or follow this link to sign up and pay online (a processing fee applies to online purchases).

HOW DOES IT WORK?

We have a pick up a box of veggies in a reusable tote every other week - Tuesdays on the farm or Saturdays at the Hollywood Market. Every share is designed to have a balance of fresh and storage veggies. You’ll get a few recipes with each pick up so if something is unfamiliar you’ll know just what to do with it. We’re always happy to chat about how we use a certain veggie in our meals.

WHAT’S LOCAL IN THE WINTER?

We’ve got a great mix of veggies for you this winter - there is way more you can grow in our mild climate than you’d think! We’ll have two kinds of produce: the kind we can keep in storage all winter and the kind we keep in the field.

The veggies that we harvest and store will be in the share no matter what.  The great news is that these crops look bountiful and great - we’ll have enough of them to make all 20 weeks of the CSA even if we loose everything in the field to an untimely frost.

The fresh field veggies don’t store well, but will grow over the winter (broccoli, greens, and salad all fit in to this category). We’ll likely have this in the early CSA boxes and in the last few CSAs.  We normally have some sort of green all winter from the field and with a mild winter predicted, our options should be wider than some colder years.  This is a risky part of the CSA, it might freeze hard in October and we’d lose some of it before the CSA even starts. But after seven years, we’ve gotten pretty good (and built a few greenhouses) so we’re confident we’ll have good greens in most shares!

WHAT’S IN A SHARE?

Every other week you'll bring home a share of veggies from the farm.  In the winter we'll have them pre-packed for you in bins.  If you find things you don't like, no problem, you can trade them out for things you do!

Here are some examples of what a full share might look like at different points in the winter season, but is still subject to change.  Each share is for two weeks of eating!

November:
2 # carrots, 1# shallots, 1# onions, red cabbage, 4# of potatoes, 2-3 squash, 3# beets, 1# brussels sprouts, 1 bunch chard, 1-2 butter lettuce heads, 1 bunch of fennel, 1 small cauliflower, and two bags of salad. If all goes well, we might get some broccoli and cauliflower in place of a squash and some of the beets.

January:
4# carrots, 3# leeks, 3 heads garlic, 4-5 small squash (like acorn or delicatas), 3# gold beets, 4# potatoes, 1 head chicory, 1 head cabbage, 2# kohlrabi, 2 #s onions, a few bunches of greens and a bag of salad!

March:
4# carrots, 3# leeks, 3 heads garlic, 1 large squash (like a spaghetti or butternut), 3# beets, 4# fingerling potatoes, 2 heads chicory, 2 heads January King cabbage, celeriac, 1 very large kohlrabi, onions, some purple sprouting broccoli, cauliflower, and plenty of greens!

Dates and pick ups:

We have two pick up locations - you can alternate between them as you need but it's best to let me know by e-mail if you will be as the winter shares are prepacked.  But if you forget to let me know, show up anyway - we'll figure it out!

Partner shares:

We are so happy to be offering some amazing products through the CSA this year!

Meat and Milk from Wingham farms: The raw milk drop offs continue through the winter.  To get raw milk in Oregon you have to "own" part of the cow - conveniently, it works just like a CSA share and you get milk on a regular schedule.  Meat will be available for purchase by anyone at the CSA pick ups.  If you're interested in milk, learn more here.

Fish from Kenai Red Fish Company: Get a variety of amazing fish, frozen, smoked, or even as a delicious salmon spread, as you want spread over the months of the winter CSA.
From Allison at Kenai Red:

We are Kenai-Red Fish Company! A Community Supported Fishery (CSF) that proudly delivers high quality, long lasting, sustainable wild Alaskan seafood shares to households around the Portland area. Our fishing grounds are the Cook Inlet out of Ninilchik, AK and the waters outside of Juneau, AK. By purchasing a share from us, your next seafood dinner is direct from the boat to your table.

Our vision is to bring our salmon to the tables of those who care about: a direct relationship with their fisherman, healthy eating, sustainable fishery practices, support of a family owned small scale business, the origins and handling of what they eat.

This marks our forth season partnering with Stoneboat Farm. We are grateful to be able to reach more individuals and families like you, thanks to wonderful kindred spirits like Aaron and the rest of the crew. By purchasing here through Stoneboat Farms, you are getting an approx. 15% discount off our seafood!

How to order: Place your order HERE

Note: The amount you are selecting is the total that you want for the whole year, not just for the first month. If you choose to do monthly pick ups, we can split this order up.

How to pay: We will send an invoice to your email where you can pay directly with card within a week or so of ordering. Easy!

Pick up options: We will be at the Stoneboat Farm pick up one week of each month starting in November for the duration of the Winter CSA. You have 2 pick up options- A one time bulk pick up of your entire order or a monthly pick-up. We will also have a NE Portland pick up once a month on a different day for those who do not make it out to the farm.

We also want to point out that this Buying Club is not limited to Stoneboat Farm CSA members. We encourage you to spread the word to friends and family and include them in this offer.

Bread from Nanna Cardoon: Specialty breads from Nanna Cardoon baked with local grains!  More details to come but Balkan loaf and Volkenbrot will be offered at 10 dollars a loaf.  Contact Charleen for more info or to sign up.  Available only at farm pick ups.

Mushrooms from Cloud Cap Mushrooms: Get a good selection of cultivated mushrooms (or just shitakies if you prefer) each pick up.  They're easy to use and pair well with winter veggies. Order here:  https://cloudcapmushrooms.com/stoneboat-farm/mushroom-add-on

Noodles from Umi Organic: Get some really good Ramen and/or Yakisoba noodles each month from Umi.  They both make great, and quick, winter meals and it's easy to make them veggie focused.  More info and ordering info here.

Fruit from Kiyokawa: Good news - the apple and pear harvest looks great this year and we'll have amazing fruit through most of the winter.  We will have a fruit share that runs from November through February, so 16 weeks in 8 pick ups of fruit.  Hopefully there will still be some apples in March and we'll have a separate, one time only fridge cleaning sale too!

With over a hundred varieties of apples and many varieties of pears on their farm you'll get a chance to try new apples (we had some pink fleshed ones last year- pretty awesome!) and see some old favorites as well.  They also press their own cider and that should pop up in the CSA (and hopefully be available for sale at the CSA stand too) as well.  There may be some jams available as well for more variety.

We'll have whole or half shares - the half share will be approximately 10-15 pieces of fruit (the amount varies by cost and by size of the fruit) per pick up (so it will last you two weeks); the whole share will be twice that much.  If cider is available, it may replace some of the fruit that week.  A half share will cost $107 and a whole $210 for the eight pick ups, November through February, this winter.  Sign up for this share by e-mailing me and bringing a check (as always, paying cash or check saves you the processing fee).  Sign ups are also available online at our website and in our store.

If you want more info about Kiyokawa Family Orchard, check out their website or just ask!

Eggs from Crooked Roost Farm:  Eggs will be available at the CSA stand on a first come first serve basis though the winter.
