Wingham Farms:

Wingham Farms is a pasture-based family farm located in nearby Manning (Banks), Oregon. We raise our animals 365 days a year outdoors on our 100-acre farm, in natural and humane conditions, and without use of antibiotics, hormones, pesticides or herbicides.

Meat:

This meat is truly different from the grocery store. The animals are completely pasture raised; our beef and goat are completely grass-fed and grass-finished, ensuring the benefits from things like leaner meat, more Omega-3 fatty acids and more antioxidants, as well as freedom from things like antibiotics and hormones. We schedule butchering at optimum times for the animal’s health (like in the fall or spring after they can enjoy the flush of new grass) and freeze our meat after dry aging, so it is preserved at its most delicious, most tender, and most nutritious.

Aaron from Stoneboat says this meat is awesome. And he was a chef for ten years and a butcher for a few as well.

Wingham is still figuring out how to best distribute their meat this year, details to come.

Kiyokawa Orchards Fruit Share

kiyokawa orchard.jpg

This share is a little different from the other shares - to make it work for Kiyokawa, Stoneboat will be handling the signups and payments. So if you want in, the best way is to sign up on the website right here. The share will start the week of July 15th and continue on through the end of the season - that's 16 weeks of fruit. It costs $245 for the season. It will start with a mix of cherries for a few weeks and then on to peaches and apples by mid August or so (with probably some cherries mixed in in early August too). It continues through August with some cool pluerries (a cherry plum mix!) added in for a few weeks. Pears start in early/mid September as peaches phase out. There may be some pluots and plums to spice things up through September. By late September and October there will be apples, pears, Asian pears, and plums. By mid to late October it will be pears and apples. But I'm not really doing it justice here. By "apples" I mean a mixed box of a few of the 120 varieties (for real!) Kiyokawa grows. I saw the list for last year and with all the varieties they're picking each week, it runs something like seven pages! It is worth noting though that even if you've been at it for three generations, fruit is unpredictable - there may be a week or even two where we have to take a break - if so you'll either get more fruit next time or we'll get you some jam or other preserves for that week.

In one share you might get: 2.5lbs of mixed cherries, 2# of pluerries, 3# of plums or peaches, or four to five lbs of apples or pears. Many shares will have a mix of fruits (so a pound and a quarter of cherries and a pound and a half of peaches for instance). This is a rough example but gives you an idea of the quantity.  This is our second year with Kiyokawa and last year was really amazing in both the quantity and quality of fruit $13 a week bought!

Kiyokawa is a 3rd generation family farm in Hood River. And the family and the orchard have some pretty amazing stories - from immigration to internment camps to the Alar scare of the 80s that helped kick off the organic and no spray movement in fruit production, more than a century of Oregon history right there. If you're curious you can read a lot of the story here.

Tide Creek Farms

Milk from Tide Creek Farms:

Tide Creek Farms is a grass based raw milk dairy located in Deer Island, OR.  We have been supplying our herdshare members with safe, clean, delicious raw milk since 2016.

Our herd is made up of spoiled rotten jersey and jersey cross cows.  They enjoy fresh pasture 365 days a year along with local hay and alfalfa.  When they get milked we treat them with some grass seed pellets.

Our mission is to go back to the basics.  We want people to know where there food comes from.

You can check out our website at www.tidecreekfarms.com
Or contact April Beardsley directly at 971-203-3667.  We are here to help and understand that not everyone was raised on a farm and there's a lot to learn when owning a herd of cows.
